Was it something we said?

He's off. The top guys don't stay around long these days. Chief Constable Alf Hitchcock is leaving to head up the Ministry of Defence police having arrived just two years ago. Check it out at the BBC News website

When I was at Force HQ a little while back I took this snap of a plaque listing all the chiefs since Beds Police started in 1840. You will note that the the length of service for each CC has been, in years, 31, 8, 30, 29, 13, 18, 8, 4, 2, 11, 5, 4, 5, 2.

I think I detect a trend there. That's modern management and modern careers. They don't make double figures.
