Mill Road traffic calming

Further information from CBC about Mill Road works and effect on buses:

I have been advised that the forthcoming work in Mill Road for week 13-17 August  is to be carried out using traffic lights.  However a road closure is planned to take place on 21,22,and 23 August at the junction of Mill Road, Crane way and Crawley Road between 9.00am and 3.30pm on each of the three days.  This will affect the Stagecoach 52, Grant Palmer 45 and Road Runner RR1.  During this closure the Stagecoach 52 and Road Runner RR1 will need to divert via Bedford Road.  The effect on the Grant Palmer 45 service will need to be discussed.  Notices for bus passengers will be put out at bus stops in advance of the closure.

Traffic calming works

Bourne End Road is closed off now for TC works. A parishioner reports that the Stagecoach bus driver yesterday would not go down Crane Way although that is clear at the moment. Hopefully s/he has been put right on that one. Stagecoach bus on Crane Way this morning.

Litter issues

I have carried out a windscreen (from the car) inspection of Bourne End Road and Astwood Road down to the local authority boundary, Crawley Road, College Road, Shire Lane, Moulsoe Road from the junction with Shire Lane to windsock corner and WSC to Lodge Road.

Following last month’s engagement with CBC there was genuine improvement on the verges. Some ditches however are in a poor state. The last time I checked the deep ditch beside the football club it had quite a lot of debris.  Bourne End Road has been reported as litter strewn. It could do with a pick but its not as bad as the original four roads tackled by ‘T’ Force.

The worst offender currently is Shire Lane, which has areas of accumulated rubbish.  I will recommend that we approach CBC environmental management for another ‘pick’.

I also think we should write to the university and Nissan/Trafficmaster about evidence that a lot of rubbish – bottles, cans and food wrapping is thrown from cars on the roads leading to the campus and the tech park. This would be a polite request that they periodically remind staff/students that littering our roads is a pretty anti-social way to behave.

Amey

The Parish Council has agreed to write to Amey to about their lack of responsiveness to public complaints. We are also writing to CBC asking for the guidelines that it issues to Amey relating to communication with the public. This relates to Amey’s footpath work in Mill Road and Crane Way when their policy on dropped kerbs produced complaints.
We will also request from Amey details of all work that is to be carried out in Cranfield in the next twelve months, press for repair of the kerbing and concrete edging on the grassed areas in the area of Crane Way and seek confirmation that the proposed traffic calming is, or should be, in the schedule of work planned for 2012-13.

More housing?

Remember the LDF? The Local Development Framework gave us 135 homes at Central Motors and 21 at the High St-Lodge Road corner. Now we have a new ‘development strategy’ which must be completed by April 2014. If not developers can put in a punt to build anywhere. Meanwhile bids are once again being solicited from all the usual suspects. Watch that open space - very carefully.

traffic calming

There have been four objections to the proposed traffic calming scheme for Cranfield which is going before Central Beds Council. Two I understand were from people who were worried raised tables outside their drives (no, they wont)  and one from someone who wanted more traffic  (no, there won’t be). We are expecting it to go through and to be carried out in the 2012-13.

Crane Way

Response from Amey regarding Crane Way (see previous post).

Pat and I met with Lawrence yesterday and I understand he will be responding back to the Parish Council.

However one quick action from our end is that I was disappointed with the
condition of the new kerbing and have spoken to our works team. As a result,
where kerbs have been damaged (by presumably the tarmac roller), these kerbs
will be replaced at no cost to CBC.

Crane Way

We have been chasing Amey about various modifications they made to Crane Way last year. They have either declined to respond or passed our comments on to the "Watchman in chief'. Who has not responded. The pursuit is getting hotter.

On that score where is the consultation on the traffic calming? Is it finished on January 18 or starting?  Sorry to be so in the dark
