White lines

The white lines go all the way up Marston Hill again. At last. It's your choice whether you feel frustrated that it took this long or glad that it's happened at all. Same difference with Moulsoe Road, - frustrated that it is still closed for the cycleway construction or elated that it's happening? I'll go for glass half full. But I still get caught out at Nissan roundabout.

Moulsoe Road Closure

Cranfield - twinned with Holdup, Austria and Conesville, Montana
Will it really take four months to build the new footpath/cycleway to the uni? That's the message from the TTRO (temporary traffic regulation order to give it its full, inglorious title). See below. BTW still, yes still, waiting for some decent explanation for the Great Marston Hill Closure in July which plunged afternoon traffic into gridlock.

Proposed Temporary Road Closure – C75 Moulsoe Road, Cranfield

I have a request for a Temporary Road Closure at the above location to enable footway works to be carried out in safety. Details are listed in the schedule below and having assessed the application I am satisfied the request is justified.

The alternative route for this closure is as in the details below and will be signed accordingly. The restrictions are to be in operation only when the necessary signs are erected on site. The  Legal  Order will be made  to  cover a  four month  period. Access may be allowed from  time to time  according  to local  signing.
If you have any observations you wish to make I would be grateful if you could let me know as soon as possible.

Cycleway to the Uni

We have just been told by Highways  that they have begun preparatory design works in order to provide a new shared footway/cycleway along the C75 Moulsoe Road from Cranfield Road/High Street to the roundabout at University Way, linking into the existing facility present on Cranfield Road to Lodge Road.

The new path will run along the north side of the road alongside the boundary of Cranfield Airfield. Further details including a plan will be sent to the parish cvounciol at a later stage for further comment.

This is all out of the blue but not we are complaining if it all goes ahead.  Plenty of us have seen students hoofing it up Moulsoe Road and Crawley Road on dark winter nights and it's not good. Watch this space.

Walking to Cranfield University and back

Driving  up the Moulsoe Road  last night in sleet and dark there were two students walking along the road.  The verge of this busy road now has the clear evidence of people forced to walk back and forward from the village to the Campus because of the lack of public transport at the right time. The evidence of how regularly these dangerous verges are used can be seen from the images above - these are the so-called 'desire lines' where walkers mark out their own routes regardless of the built environment. The footpath/cycleway is more vital than ever.

Cycle path

Sue Clark had a question from the Parish Council (at the stakeholder meeting)  – how will the 106 money be split for highways projects, as the council wants to pursue the need for a cycle track to the university site and intends to broker discussions with the university.  Anne Samme explained the 106 had been intentionally non-committal because of the need to assess the funding options at the time, especially regarding any possible upgrading.

See above from the recent Home farm Stakeholder meeting  - the cycle path is a long  promised and much needed development. The £100,000 set aside is also supposed to be spent on the path between Court Road and Church Walk but the break down is "intentionally non-committal".  Just how difficult does that make our job?

Section 106 money - how hard can it get to extract it? Money for the village traffic calming, for proper school facilities (remote playing field, no use to anyone), health centre - nowhere to put it, PCT no longer interested.
