Sound as a pound? Probably not

See below the minutes of the Finance Committee due for approval at next week's meeting. Several years ago, Barclays bounced a serious cheque we had issued because they somehow defaulted back to previous non-active cheque signatories including one who was, sadly, dead. They never gave us a proper explanation or addressed our concerns. So this latest episode is the straw on the poor old camel's back. Just for information the PC has a sound record of account auditing internal and external and we watch the progress of every penny. Pity some big High St banks didn't do the same.

Banking – Barclays. The Clerk reported upon the excessive charges made by Barclays Bank in relation to two cheques which when presented did not have sufficient funds available in this Council’s current account. Previously, it had been agreed with Barclays that should funds run out in the current account, money would automatically be transferred from the deposit account. This did not happen, and all approaches to the bank have failed in recovering the money. It was RECOMMENDED therefore that this Council changes its account to another bank. The Clerk undertook to look into mutual banks, including the Co-operative Bank.
