Nearly 10 years ago I attended my first parish council meeting and there was a presentation from Persimmon about a draft design for the new development on Home Farm. Last night I went to an exhibition by Persimmon about a new lay out for Home Farm. It would take a lot of blogging to cover the twists and turns in that decade.
Obviously the new version, unveiled before Christmas, has been driven by pure commercial necessity as Persimmon's land negotiations have fallen through and they are trying to squeeze a quart into a pint pot. In the process they are crossing their fingers and hoping the school playing field has gone away. They are also keen to reinvent the Church Walk access, leading to the centre of the village, as the Court Road access which is very different. Church Walk was key to the allocation of development to Home Farm over the airfield site.
Persimmon reps need to accept there is irritation with the company in the village and the PC over the years. One of their reps said to to me, last night, that the PC 'gave us a good kicking' (at a public meeting before Christmas) But we are simply channelling professional frustration with how they have delivered. And they should get over it.
