Neighbourhood plan launched

RESIDENTS of the Upper Eden area of Cumbria voted yes in the UK's first neighbourhood plan referendum, last month.

Residents were asked whether they wanted Eden District Council to use the neighbourhood plan for the Upper Eden area to help decide planning applications.

Voters endorsed the plan, which covers 17 parishes in East Cumbria.

The plan will now go forward to be formally included as part of Eden District Council's Development Plan. Check the full details here Neighbourhood plan

Neighbourhood plans have been discussed extensively in Cranfield and other Vale PCs. Our concern was that they simply identified where housing could take place without any guarantee  of the facilities and infrastructure to support it.

I also noted with interest  that 17 PCs were able to band together to agree a plan. CBC has previously told us that each PC had to do their own plan. This was obviously a concern for small ones, like Salford in particular. It will be instructive to see how the adopted neighbourhood plan in Cumbria affects local planning decisions.
