We had a a very interesting presentation last night before Parish Council from Joanna Farbon , head teacher at Cranfield Academy (Lower School) and governor reps. The governors have made no final decision but they are considering a split site with education remaining in Court Road and one-form entry (ie a third of the school) being located on the proposed site at Flitt Leys.
There might be scope for the pre-school to be located there as well. They have not ruled out using the playing field allocated on Home Farm. But, as they stressed, nothing is finally decided.
The energy and commitment of Joanna and of Sarah Brown, chair of governors is impressive and they did a good talk, partly explaining the extra freedom they have under their academy status to vary the curriculum to deliver the very best for the village. The whole school site is clearly a major project and there are still many imponderables. Governors must have been as frustrated as the Parish Council by the to-ings and fro-ings at Chicksands.
Joanna pointed out that she has a degree in business studies and law. That is very reassuring because that knowledge and skills will be needed very badly as the planning and development process of the expanded school gets under way.
