Jim Gledhill chair of Toddington Parish Council asks: "Local authorities are being urged to consider the introduction of more 20 mph speed limits and many town and parish councils are keen to see such reduced speeds limits in their communities. Why then, despite the provisions of Department for Transport Circular 01/2013 Setting Local Speed Limits, do certain officers of the Bedfordshire Police Service persist in saying that 20 mph limits are not enforceable?"
Well I'll believe Jim if he says such officers are saying that and indeed it is puzzling if local and official opinion is in favour of 20 mph. Is 30 mph enforceable? Is it not just a matter of recalibrating the radar guns and the speed cameras? Another one for Thursday night when the PCC meets town and parish councillors.
