Broad Band

A helpful bloke from CBC came to our PC meeting on Wednesday and we were joined by pcllrs from Lidlington, Marston and Salford. Basically the CBC plan is that areas not being served by commercial development of high capacity broadband (i.e the Vale) will have some seed money pumped in with a view to getting 90 per cent of us up to 25 mbps by  2015. Lots of talk about copper and fibre to the cabinet. Very techie. Basic message: don't hold our breath

Obviously we all want to know who is not in the 90 percent. :-(

My ISP (TalkTalk) has been dangling a carrot that they will upgrade their equipment in Cranfield exchange to enable 24Mbps "within" months.

Their support people also state that they may "unbundle" the TalkTalk landline & thus we will not be charged for broadband, just the phone components.

Again, repeating Laurences comment re CBC's BB initiative , "don't hold your breath".

Thanks for that Les. CBC speaker reported various providers not being open about intentions or capabilities. Rowland Hill's penny post didn't face these problems.
