Turning Cranfield poppy red

The image is for 10,000 Flanders poppy seeds from Amazon. So we were startled to learn last night that the estimated cost, via the RBL, would be around £450 (for 300,000 seeds). Cranfield RBL would like to apply for a section 137 grant (see recent blog posting) to fund the scattering of poppy seeds in the run-up to next year's WWI centenary and we support this completely. But we hesitated to award the full £500 until we have seen why the poppies should cost so much and what would be the correct quantity.

I have no doubt we will be supporting the costs but in making grants we also have to look at how a figure is arrived at. I am sure we can get it all sorted out before the next meeting of the grants committee and Cranfield will be a swathe of red next August.
